Pattabhi Jois. Ashtanga Level 1 and Mysore Style practice both prepare you for the primary series – in this class you will experience the Primary series yoga practice in its entirety. It is a fast-paced, full on practice that brings the breathe-mind-body together through the use of full Vinyasa. Prior experience in yoga, exercise, or our Ashtanga Foundations yoga class is recommended. _________________________________________________________________________ Mysore Style Yoga “Mysore Style” refers to the traditional teaching method of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute in Mysore, India. It is the traditional method of transmission. All Levels welcome, no prior experience necessary! In this yoga class you will benefit from learning the ancient tradition of Ashtanga Yoga as it was intended to be transmitted via teacher to student. Mysore Style yoga is usually referred to as a self-practice – within a group setting each student practices at their own pace. The teacher will guide each individual student through the practice using physical adjustments and verbal instruction. Mysore Style Ashtanga Yoga allows each student to receive one on one personal attention ensuring that this practice will gradually be transmitted to the student without being overwhelmed with many postures as is the case with a led class. If you are new to Ashtanga Yoga, your first class will be dedicated to Surya Namaskar (sun salutations), and some finishing postures. The Ashtanga Vinyasa method is a dynamic practice that requires consistent practice (coming to class), focus (being present physically and mentally in class), surrender (letting go of ego and competitive tendencies). New postures will be added progressively to safely and effectively master the various aspects of Ashtanga yoga. While your first few classes will take you about 45 minutes to complete – as you grow in the practice you will be given more postures and your practice time will increase. _________________________________________________________________________________________ Vinyasa Yoga: Vinyasa Yoga is a flowing practice that weaves movement with breathe creating a dynamic, integrated practice. Unlike Ashtanga Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga classes do not follow a specific sequence of postures. Instead, the teacher selects postures from all traditions of yoga to create a yoga class that is ever changing. _________________________________________________________________________________________ |
