“Oh S..t!”

I woke up this morning in a total daze…It was 5am and I thought, “Oh no I am late for class!” but then I realized that it was Sunday and class wouldn’t start till 6:30 or 6:45am so all was good.  “Thank goodness,” I thought as I reset my phone alarm and went back to bed ;) -  When I did get up for good I spent about ten minutes stretching my hips and flexors as they were screaming at me from my workout yesterday!  It feels good to be getting back into a nice cardio routine along with my practice – but the road to balance between the two will be a long one for sure…I actually think sometimes how this is the worst possible time to try to re-establish my cardio in my life as Sharath has just recently taken primary out of my daily practice – and doing only second is trying as it is but with the addition of extremely tight muscles in the morning – geez……

Once I got ready and headed out the door I grabbed my garbage and put it on the steps for the cleaning lady to take later today when she comes.  That done I began to head down to the gate – when all of a sudden, ‘!$^&*^(%(&!%$#!(%(^*%’ – as I was falling down the steps all I could think was, “Oh S..t!”  I only tumbled down the last four or five but when I landed on solid ground I couldn’t move for a good 50 seconds…I felt a lot of pain in my right ankle – “that’s just awesome Krista – you are the clumsiest freaking person alive – you’re just about to go to second series led class and look at yourself – just look at you!”  But I decided the pain was in my head and I’d be just fine if I would only get up and start walking…Peep talk done I grabbed the railing and heaved myself to a standing position, which felt a bit wobbly at first.  Then I hobbled to the gate and started walking to class.  And what would you know, after the first five minutes of walking the pain was nearly gone…YIPPIE…I would have been fuming pissed with myself if I had done something to really damage my ankle – that would take FOREVER to heal…Luckily just a little spill with a little drama…No worries…

Once I got to the shala the Second Series ‘crew’ (most of it anyway) was sitting outside on the steps waiting for Sharath to finish leading the Primary group…We waited for about ten minutes (and here I thought I might be late to class today) and once they finished up we headed inside…And I must say I really don’t look forward to walking into the shala on Sundays after Primary b/c it is sooooo hot and muggy and it reeks of lots of human body odor….Luckily after the first minute in that environment you don’t notice a thing ;)   I went over to my usual Sunday spot and waited for my friend Chris to finish his Shavasana…When he opened his eyes and saw me standing there he said, “Are you waiting for me?” – I told him, “YES, so get up!”  We had a good little laugh and then traded places…

So practice, oh yes it was quite tasty today.  Like I said I was uber tight this morning but I warmed up pretty quickly and I actually kinda liked the added challenge provided by my stiff body…Did just fine with everything till we got to Bakasana (AS ALWAYS)…And it is working for me nowadays to put my little sweat towel in front of me and somehow jump into the pose by staring at the towel…But the exception is on led class days…I don’t know if it’s b/c we go so fast, or b/c I feel like Sharath is staring at me, or b/c of something else – I tend to think it’s the speed of the practice and the fact that I only have one chance to get it – which gives me the shakes….Anyway, I didn’t quite get it but had it good enough to hold on for five breaths (Imagine being in the pose with one leg properly resting on your tricep but the other haphazardly dangling from the other tricep – that was me ;)   After Bakasana the rest of the practice flowed pretty smoothly, of course the slight hiccup with my right leg wanting to be a ‘pain in the butt’ during Eka Pada – but it’s gonna take some more time to get it smooth…Even Dwi Pada Sirsasana is getting better (b/c my tailbone is slightly deformed all poses where I rest on it are EXTREMELY challenging (Navasana, Ubhaya Padangusthasana, Urdhva Mukha Paschimattanasana, Uttana Padasana) and now Dwi Pada…But everyday I feel like I’m gaining more balance to properly hold myself up with my legs behind my head and my hands in prayer close to my heart….Hopefully in a few weeks I’ll have it down!

BTW – for my friends and family that are not familiar with yoga poses – you can check out the website below if you want to know/see what the heck I am talking about…Pictures aren’t of me but they will show you what the poses I speak of look like: http://ashtangayoga.info/asana-vinyasa/intermediate-series/index.html
