Terrific day in Mysore
A great way to start the day – practice was fantastic this morning! I am back to doing all of primary and second up to Supta Vajrasana and it feels wonderful.
It sure was hard to wake up this morning though…I always set my alarm for 3:50am so I can snooze it once before getting up at 4am…And although I only hit the snooze button once, I really had to talk myself into actually getting outta bed and into the bathroom for my bucket bath…
As soon as I left the house I called Kwang b/c I hadn’t heard from him since yesterday morning around 8:30am when he was in Chicago – he had a horrible ten plus hour layover there but should have called me last night! When I called his house he answered and said he just arrived home about 45 minutes prior b/c the Chicago to Orlando flight got delayed and then when he did arrive in Orlando he had to wait another 1 ½ hours b/c his beloved friend slept in and didn’t make it to the airport on time to pick Kwang up L My poor baby! But I am so thankful he got home safely, even though it took an eternity for him to get there. It was so good to hear his voice. He seemed really tired but happy to be home.
When I arrived at the shala around 4:55 shala time (real time would be 4:45am) there were only a handful of people outside – but within two minutes there were tons of yogis waiting to get in the shala like me! As soon as the gate was unlocked the pushing and shoving began, although I can happily say it isn’t as fierce as it was from May-July! I have sort of marked my spot in the back of the shala right next to the ladies locker room…If I don’t get it everyday I will be more than alright with another spot, but being in the first group sort of forces you to find a spot and keep it b/c MANY people are VERY PARTIAL towards a certain spot in the shala and if you happen to take it one day b/c you don’t care where you go and you get there first, well then you may just get scolded by another yogi with attachment issues…I learned this many times the hard way last visit so I am gonna try to maintain this particular spot that no one else seems to care about!
As for practice, well it was just splendid today, as it was yesterday! I was able to maintain a steady focus, great breath, and even managed to keep hold of my bandhas pretty well too! I just feel ‘in the zone’ recently and boy am I grateful for it. Those of you who practice must know what I mean – sometimes you just aren’t together in your practice; be it your mind wandering, your breath scanty, your bandhas troublesome, your focus all over the place, or some external distraction that you just can’t shake…Moreover, these sorts of distractions may last a day, a week, a month, or longer but you just keep on doing your practice day by day…And eventually you get into a groove again and the practice just comes all by itself. Well that is where I am right now and I sure do hope this groove lasts a long, long, long time!
Saraswati helped me with drop backs today – its been a very long time since she or Guruji helped me – Sharath usually does – they are all WONDERFUL but its nice to have them all help me every now and then so that was an added bonus to my practice today…
Sharath has been assisting me in Supta Vajrasana the last two days and yesterday he gave me some great tips to get myself deeper – try to bring the legs much tighter (get your whole foot to poke out over your thigh on both sides in lotus), and also sort of flex your toes and keep them flexed throughout the pose. Boy did it make a huge difference in the posture today!! At Yoga Thailand Paul and the crew tried hard to get me deeper in that pose but I honestly just think it takes time, and as all poses, some are easier for others —this is one that is rather difficult for me to keep my fingers grasped around my toes the whole time – but today gave me a ray of hope that it will one day come!
Shavasana was also awesome today, and I always know it’s gonna be a great day if I have a good Shavasana! Sweet!!!! After Shavasana I went to the locker room, changed and collected my things and then took my 15 minute walk back home! The weather outside is wonderful and the air feels fresh. This sure is one of those days when I truly feel grateful for all I have in life.
