Organic Market, Loyal World, Apollo Hospital, Pharmacy – What A Day!

Good day to all:

As I sit here at 2:42pm on Sunday afternoon, I gotta say if feels a bit more like 8pm.  Had a great day thus far, just quite busy…Woke up this morning and excitedly got ready to head out to the organic market that is help each Sunday at the Green Hotel.  You HAVE to get there by 10am or else you won’t get a thing b/c all the yogis come and swipe up everything pretty darn quickly…There really isn’t a ton of stuff there but it doesn’t take long before it’s all gone!  Kwang was sure to get some of the AMAZING dried bananas one vendor sells, as well as some other items – but I was too busy looking at the organic, handmade clothes to pay any notice.  I got a great blue organic skirt and top, and another organic top – the clothes here are a bit on the expensive side compared to most clothes you can buy here – but they are well worth it.

Once we finished up at the market we headed over to Loyal world to pick up some food stuffs we needed to grab (you know banana chips, bug spray, shaving creme – the usual :)   Then we stopped by the pharmacy in town to grab another months supply of vitamins (I got two months worth – one for me and one for Kwang – but as it worked out last time this supply will likely last me two months b/c Kwang is bad about taking his vitamins ;(  You should drop him and email and tell him to eat his veggies and take his vitamins – if I would let him he would eat Pizza Hut for dinner every single night – and he has actually succeeded in doing that for four out of six nights – the other two he ate just as unhealthy, but I refused to let him call that pizza delivery place one more time!!!

From the pharmacy we headed home to put away the groceries and then we ATTEMPTED to find our way to the Apollo Hospital in town – that was really a comical trip that ended the way most things seem to – nowhere!  We were given directions several times by several different people – none of which were even remotely correct.  After an hour of driving around on the scooter, Kwang and I decided to go home and grab a bite to eat and then take a rickshaw to the hospital.  Why the hospital?  Well, as you WELL know my tummy is just not too happy here in Mysore and I have been advised to get checked for parasites (I know GROSS)….But it may be the problem, or part of the problem, and I would personally like to find out if I have anything living inside of me – and if I do I would very, very, very much like to get rid of it.  Sorry if that grosses you out – it does me too.  But the truth is that parasites are very common for people to get in India – and not to ruin your day – but also in AMERICA…Most people walk around with them for years and years and years and never know that they have them!

Once we ate lunch (I made a smoothy with banana, flax seed, and soy milk – yummy), we grabbed a rickshaw and made our way to the Apollo hospital – and guess what????  It was nowhere near any of the directions we were given previously~go figure~~~

We went inside and we told to go to emergency.  The guy there told me i needed to get a scan of my tummy done but that the office to do that was not open today – I must come back in the morning.  He also gave me a RX for a pill to check for WORMS (yuck)…He said that this pill would tell us if I had worms, and if I did then I would be put on a worm treatment (I gotta tell ya I have never felt so much like a DOG before in my entire life – and I mean Literally a DOG – when I got back outside with Kwang I even told him so and he thought it was quite funny – although I think I have been the BUTT of several of his jokes recently!)  Anyway, he told me to take that pill, and to come back tomorrow morning so they could do some more extensive tests on me.  I thought “thank goodness, now we are getting somewhere” – so I left the emergency room and went down the hall to get my worm medicine (please laugh now b/c I am).  The guy looked at my RX, grabbed a pill  and said, “fifteen rupees please” – “of course”, I said as I pulled the ~ $.0.30 from my wallet and handed it to the man – and it cost me nothing to consult the doctor in the emergency room who spent a least 10 minutes with me (that would have cost you about $25.00 deductable back home if you had insurance – otherwise you would have spent at least two hundred dollars on the consultation I got for free.  AND, guess what???? As soon as I walked into the emergency room I didn’t have to wait one second before I got helped…)  I tell you – things are so backwards here you have no idea.  Anything that takes FOREVER at home takes a second here, and vice versa.  And to my surprise the hospital was really quite nice, modern, and very clean.  Of course it’s not quite like what you see back home, but it is pretty darn comparable.  And – the sanning I’ll get done tomorrow is gonna cost me a whole 200 rupees – that is about $4.50….Again, with no insurance you would pay somewhere around $200 dollars but with you would have a copay that is at least three times that!  Regardless of the costs and service etc. I am really hopeful that it will be a pleasant trip to the hospital tomorrow and no matter what the problem is – that they will be able to help me!

On a little different note, I am totally looking forward to my practice tomorrow morning – although I have been told they are taping again and they are gonna do it during the primary series led group (which is the one I’m in) – not that I mind at all but I really want to have a deep practice tomorrow – seeing as how it’s been two days off practice – and I know that all those camera men will be somewhat of a distraction during practice.  Oh well – it will be a good exercise for me in intense focus…..

I wish you all a beautiful day – Happy New Moon – Happy Sunday – Happy Day.

Om Shanti,

Krista
