Broken Glass

Well well, I gotta say I don’t feel as though I started this day off on the right foot….I got up and felt a ton better than I did yesterday – got a nice hot shower – and had some warm tea before practice.  But when I went to get Kwang up, he was feeling really ill and said his tummy was real torn up.  Poor guy ran to the bathroom twice during practice and ended up finishing early b/c he was just not feeling well.

I, on the other hand, had a delicious practice – I got nice and open and really felt quite present in the shala.  But when I finished practice I headed up towards the stage, as I do every single morning, to give my respects to Guruji, and I ended up breaking a framed plaque that rests on the mantle area between the ladies and mens changing room…As I was walking on the far side of the room – from the ladies towards the mens changing room – a gentleman said excuse me and walked past me – no biggie except it caused me to run into the mantle area where there are tons of pictures and plaques etc….When I did I heard a fall, crash, and breaking sound.  Turned around and sure enough I had knocked over a framed plaque and the glass shattered.  So I got down on the floor and cleaned up the mess.  The guy who knocked me briefly came back and helped clean up a little glass and then walked away again.  So I finished getting as much as possible and then walked toward the front of the shala with the broken glass and the plaque.  I headed toward the office and Sharath came up to me…I told him I was very sorry; he said “what happened” and I told him.  He seemed angry and he told me “$25.00 fine” – don’t know if he was joking but I think he was.  Then I asked him if he wanted me to leave the mess in the office and he told me to take it to the guy outside so he could dispose of the glass.  Well, at this point I already felt totally horrible about what happened b/c I broke something really special to Guruji, I made a ruckous in the Shala, and I probably disturbed a lot of peoples practice; but it totally got worse when I walked outside looking for this guy and right as he walked up to me Guruji stuck his head out of the Shala door and gave me a very unhappy look that was followed by a ‘not so happy grunt’.

Honestly, I felt like such an asshole!!  Even though I didn’t mean to break the glass, I still felt like a poo head.  But the damage was done and there was nothing more I could do to help fix the problem – so I slowly walked over to BIG and got a coconut from him.  Sucked that down and ate the gungi out of it.  Then Kwang, Roise, Peter and I headed home.  As soon as we made it to the door Kwang went straight to the bedroom and got into bed…Poor guy just doesn’t feel well today – and I can totally sympathize with that – but the unfortunate thing is that there is nothing I can really do to help him (totally know now how he felt yesterday….)  I told him I would get him some bananas ‘casue that’s the only thing he seems to want in this world right now.

I got showered up and Peter and Rosie and I headed to Shakti to grab some food.  It seems like such an off day for a lot of people, which is unfortunate…Several people at breakfast just didn’t seem themselves, Rosie’s got a bad sore throat, and Kwang’s in bed at home with a really bad tummy.

I am currently sitting at Anu’s Internet Cafe checking my email, updating this blog, and checking airfare to Bangkok, as well as stuff for Europe.  I’m gonna run home in a few minutes to check on Kwang and try to get back out here later today to get some more research done regarding our trip to Thailand, and later to Europe.
